Criteria

Question 1: Does species need conservation or recovery in England?
Response: Yes
Justification: This species, which is entirely dependent on mycorrhizal fungi for nutrition, has declined considerably (32% decline in AOO, hence VU in England), represents a challenge as it is has suffered from a combination of changing patterns of rainfall, increased nitrogen deposition and modification of woodland habitats as a result of changes in management, succession and deer grazing.
Question 2: Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions?
Response: No
Justification: The complex ecology of this species currently too poorly understood for us to be confident of providing species-specific actions for its restoration at any sites.
Question 3: At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages?
Response: No
Justification: This species would not benefit from untargeted management
