Criteria

Question 1: Does species need conservation or recovery in England?
Response: Yes
Justification: Majority of GB population is in England (1 population in Wales). It's never been common and is probably stable on clean water rivers but has declined due to water quality at other sites. There is evidence to suggest that the species is adversely affected by nutrient enrichment (e.g. in rivers Hants Avon & Itchen).
Question 2: Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions?
Response: No
Justification: Water quality is the main issue affecting this species.
Question 3: At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages?
Response: No
Justification: This species would not benefit from untargeted management
