Criteria

Question 1: Does species need conservation or recovery in England?
Response: Yes
Justification: Requires a recovery project to restore former range of this Critically Endangered NW English endemic. Seems to have gone from most historic sites (once known from 12 sites) and now only known in Chapel-le-Dale (Jones 2014; Rich 2025 in press). Cause of decline unknown but as a tall leafy species likely to do with grazing or verge/woodland edge management.
Question 2: Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions?
Response: Yes
Justification: Targeted survey required to determine requirements and possible reasons for decline. Seed held in Millennium Seed Bank
Question 3: At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages?
Response: No
Justification: Unknown at this stage

Species Assessment

Current step on the Species Recovery Curve (SRC): 2. Biological status assessment exists
Recovery potential/expectation: Medium-high
