Criteria

Question 1: Does species need conservation or recovery in England?
Response: Yes
Justification: Requires research to resolve currently assessment as on Waiting List. Recent unpublished work by T. Rich suggests this as currently defined contains triploids and tetraploids (hence not one taxon) and it is not clear how to differentiate it from H. sabaudum (triploid); it therefore requires further taxonomic work. Potential plants have been recorded around its heartland on Exmoor, but it has gone from Cardiganshire (Pembrokeshire not assessed).
Question 2: Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions?
Response: Yes
Justification: Targeted survey required to determine current status and requirements for conservation. Seed held in Millennium Seed Bank.
Question 3: At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages?
Response: Yes
Justification: would benefit reduction in grazing at landscape scale on Exmoor

Species Assessment

Current step on the Species Recovery Curve (SRC): 1. Taxonomy established
Recovery potential/expectation: Unknown
National Monitoring Resource: Opportunistic - insufficient
