Criteria

Question 1: Does species need conservation or recovery in England?
Response: No
Justification: Assessed as NT in England due to <30 locations (Stroh et al., 2014). The species is likely to have always been rare in England as it occurs at the southern edge of its range. There are about a dozen sites in Northumberland, half a dozen on the North Yorkshire Moors and two very inaccessible populations in the English Lake District (Helvelyn, Scafell Pike). There is no evidence of an ongoing decline and the species is unlikely to be vulnerable to regional extinction due to the number of populations. Therefore no conservation actions are proposed.
Question 2: Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions?
Response: No
Justification: This is a natural rarity at the extreme southern edge of its range in England.
Question 3: At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages?
Response: No
Justification: This species is too rare to benefit from untargeted habitat management.
