Criteria
Question 1: | Does species need conservation or recovery in England? |
Response: | Yes |
Justification: | Four records from 3 Hectads in Northern England since 2014, most other records are from Scotland and Wales. |
Question 2: | Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | Habitat requirements are not known beyond association to Rivers, usually thought to be those with stony sediments, although records from Cumberland in 2016 (n=2) were from a 'vegetated sandy bar'. The fly seems to be scarce in England, rarely found and restricted to Northern areas. |
Question 3: | At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages? |
Response: | Yes |
Justification: | Retaining river flow patterns, avoidance of damming or abstraction that may affect bankside vegetation through changes in water levels. |
