Criteria

Question 1: Does species need conservation or recovery in England?
Response: Yes
Justification: Four records from 3 Hectads in Northern England since 2014, most other records are from Scotland and Wales.
Question 2: Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions?
Response: No
Justification: Habitat requirements are not known beyond association to Rivers, usually thought to be those with stony sediments, although records from Cumberland in 2016 (n=2) were from a 'vegetated sandy bar'. The fly seems to be scarce in England, rarely found and restricted to Northern areas.
Question 3: At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages?
Response: Yes
Justification: Retaining river flow patterns, avoidance of damming or abstraction that may affect bankside vegetation through changes in water levels.
