Criteria
Question 1: | Does species need conservation or recovery in England? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | While widespread decline, especially in S England, is indicated (Foster et al 2016), this species has pioneer characteristics, preferring still and slow-moving water over an exposed mineral substrate. Natural turnover of occupied sites may therefore be high. It remains fairly frequent in the Pennines. |
Question 2: | Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | In the absence of more convincing evidence of sustained decline, informal monitoring via the national recording scheme is probably more appropriate than any species-specific measures at this stage. Distribution data should be kept under review. Stictonectes lepidus may not persist for long in sites which are prone to rapid successional change (e.g. lowland drains), which limits the potential for site-based interventions. |
Question 3: | At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages? |
Response: | N/A |
Justification: |
