Criteria
Question 1: | Does species need conservation or recovery in England? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | The Great Silver Water Beetle is a charismatic and interesting species which makes a good flagship insect for lowland fens and grazing marshes. It is also readily identifiable in both larval and adult stages which makes for ease of monitoring. However, H. piceus is currently increasing and is expected to recolonise the Cambridgeshire Fens naturally (Atlas 2, Foster et al, 2018). As such, it is not a high priority for conservation in England. |
Question 2: | Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | Monitoring of this species would be useful for public engagement purposes rather than because it's an objective nature conservation priority. |
Question 3: | At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages? |
Response: | N/A |
Justification: |
