Criteria

Question 1: Does species need conservation or recovery in England?
Response: Yes
Justification: Extinct in England
Question 2: Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions?
Response: Yes
Justification: Recovery may be possible via reintroduction
Question 3: At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages?
Response: No
Justification: The species is extinct and so is unlikely to benefit from untargeted actions

Key Actions

Proposed Action: Assess feasibility and develop a plan for reintroduction to Sussex

Action targets: 6. Recovery solutions trialled

Action type: (Re-)introduction

Duration: 1 year

High priority sites:

Comments: Historically known from Sussex, where reintroduction may be a possibility, coupled with any necessary habitat restoration. The species is presently in cultivation at the Rare British Plants Nursery from plants gathered from Stanner Rocks (Radnorshire), to be used for reintroduction to Rounton Hill (Montgomeryshire). The possible use of this source for reintroduction to Sussex should be assessed.
