Section 41 Status: (not listed)
Taxa Included Synonym: (none)
UKSI Recommended Name: Hydrobia acuta neglecta
UKSI Recommended Authority: Muus, 1963

Notes on taxonomy/listing: (none)

Criteria

Question 1: Does species need conservation or recovery in England?
Response: Yes
Justification: The species has been reliably confirmed at very few English sites, also found in Scotland where it appears to be doing better. The full NBN Atlas distribution may show many erroneous records; a filtered map using only Conchological Society records shows far fewer sites.
Question 2: Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions?
Response: Yes
Justification: The species is dependent upon brackish non-tidal lagoons. Species would benefit from status assessment to understand true EOO and AOO, and pressures.
Question 3: At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages?
Response: No
Justification: This species would not benefit from untargeted management

Species Assessment

Current step on the Species Recovery Curve (SRC): 1. Taxonomy established
Recovery potential/expectation: Unknown
National Monitoring Resource: Opportunistic - insufficient
Species Comments: The maintenance and retention of lagoons. These are threatened by sea level rise and / or coastal engineering works.
