Criteria
Question 1: | Does species need conservation or recovery in England? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | Although appearing widespread there are few recents records from England; the main sites are in Wales and along the Herefordshire/ Monmouthshire border (River Monnow). There are records from Shropshire, Leicestershire, Cambridgeshire, Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire and Somerset. It is possible this is recorder bias. Whilst the main Wye water quality is poor the tribs off the Black Mountains are generally good, and it does occur on the eastwards sites here too. It is only NT in the last review. |
Question 2: | Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions? |
Response: | Yes |
Justification: | The species has been recorded from widespread locations in central and western England. There are no specific habitat requirements beyond shingle/sandy river or stream banks that are usually shaded i.e under Alder. The consensus from the NERC Report (192; 2017) is that many unrecognised but viable sites haven't been surveyed and that the species maybe more widespread than assumed. Targeted approaches to finding and surveying these sites beyond a general highlighting of potential habitat maybe difficult. |
Question 3: | At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | This species would not benefit from untargeted management |
