Criteria
Question 1: | Does species need conservation or recovery in England? |
Response: | Yes |
Justification: | 44 post-1980 hectads in England with 2 more in S Wales (Foster et al, 2018). It has been lost from most of its historic inland locations in E England but there are remaining strongholds on coastal levels in E Anglia, the south-east and on the Somerset Levels. Its fate is closely linked to that of Coastal & Floodplain Grazing Marsh priority habitat. |
Question 2: | Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | Most of the habitats occupied by L. niger have been well surveyed in recent years. Current levels of ad-hoc recording are probably proportionate to its status at present; this should be reviewed if evidence of ongoing decline is forthcoming. |
Question 3: | At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | This species would not benefit from untargeted management |
