Criteria
Question 1: | Does species need conservation or recovery in England? |
Response: | Yes |
Justification: | Dryops nitidulus is associated with diverse habitats including exposed riverine sediments, dune slacks and fens. 20 post-1980 hectad records are shown in Atlas 3 for England & Wales with a wide enough spread to suggest it is not threatened (Foster et al, 2020). Some losses of range e.g. the Sefton coast could either be due to lack of specialist recording or genuine local extinctions. Clearly the status of this species needs to be monitored but it does not stand out as an immediate priority of species-specific intervention. |
Question 2: | Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | Dryops nitidulus is likely to be best conserved via habitat-focussed measures e.g. restoring hydrological integrity of dune slacks, river restoration etc |
Question 3: | At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages? |
Response: | N/A |
Justification: |
