Criteria
Question 1: | Does species need conservation or recovery in England? |
Response: | Yes |
Justification: | But provisional. Apparently not recorded in England since 1988, and this record is now considered erroneous (for fertile Leptogium cyanescens). It seems other England records may also be erroneous, although there is a chance some in SW England e.g. Tresco, Isles of Scilly may be correct given this this is a subtropical/southern oceanic species. |
Question 2: | Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions? |
Response: | Yes |
Justification: | Clarity over England status is needed. Status in England not really known due to confusion with fertile Leptogium cyanescens. |
Question 3: | At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | This species would not benefit from untargeted management |
Species Assessment
Current step on the Species Recovery Curve (SRC): | 2. Biological status assessment exists |
Recovery potential/expectation: | Unknown |
National Monitoring Resource: | Opportunistic - insufficient |
Species Comments: | Status in England not really known due to confusion with fertile Leptogium cyanescens. Not included in draft England red list so perhaps all records are considered erroneous. |
Key Actions
Key Action 1
Proposed Action: Produce a species dossier to collate information on current and historic sites, including results of surveys and assessment of threats and remedial actions.
Action targets: 2. Biological status assessment exists
Action type: Scientific research
Duration: 1 year
Scale of Implementation: ≤ 20 sites
High priority sites: all
Comments: Fundamental first step ahead of any further actions, which may prove unnecessary and hence species can be removed from any priority list.
Key Action 2
Proposed Action: Survey most likely former sites pending outcome of Key Action 1, and consider other sites in dossier worthy of search.
Action targets: 2. Biological status assessment exists
Action type: Targeted monitoring
Duration: 2 years
Scale of Implementation: ≤ 20 sites
High priority sites: all
