Criteria
Question 1: | Does species need conservation or recovery in England? |
Response: | Yes |
Justification: | Known from sites on the East Coast of England and from Somerset Levels and the Parrett Estuary. Apparently the distribution is stable but sites are still limited, meaning that conservation may well be needed to at least maintain population levels. Known sites are potentially at risk from erosion and coastal defence actions. |
Question 2: | Does recovery/ conservation depend on species-specific actions? |
Response: | No |
Justification: | Protection would be generalised to maintaining land use and preventing drainage or flooding that may cause erosion of the habitat in general. This is not specific to the species per se, and may well be part of a bigger conservation effort to preserve the habitat for all orders and species. However, if distinct populations can be confirmed then targeted actions would be more realistic. |
Question 3: | At a landscape scale, would the species benefit from untargeted habitat management to increase habitat mosaics, structural diversity, or particular successional stages? |
Response: | Yes |
Justification: | Protection and ongoing management of areas of upper saltmarsh/brackish saltmarsh in general; certainly in adjacent/surrounding areas, should be beneficial to the species. |
